Hello All,

I know that these threads do anoy some people but I was looking for some advise. I've had small tanks for a long time. Never bigger than 20G. My birthday was last month and I finally did it!!! I got my 150G tank. Awesome deal, it came with stand, lighting, Rena filter and more. It is a drilled tank. I have never cared for a drilled tank. My only experience is with HOBs. I'm pretty scared but I know this is the better way. There was a very large plastic bin in the cabinet below with millions of little round plastic things in it which I believe is the media, or part of it. The whole set up was very dirty, and just thrown in the cabinet. We have cleaned it all, my husband is going to re-seal the edges of the silicone. Then we are ready to get it up and going. Can anyone gove me some info, link, or diagram as to how this should be set up?

Also, I have a wish list of the types of fish I would like to put together.

Discus
IR Sharks
BJ Dempsy

Can these all go together? I'm thinking not but just want to get some personal opinions from the pros. :headbang2 Also, what would compliment these fish? I am open to anyones suggestions. I've wanted this for so long I really don't want to mess it up. I know I maybe should have gone a little smaller but my motto, "Go big or go home!"

I really appreciate any feedback and I'm sorry if this thread is bothersome to anyone.

Thanks a bunch!!!

A pic of your setup would help so that we know what exactly you have.

An ID shark will outgrow your tank and eat everything!

Good luck and keep us updated!

Thanks GR.........I will try to get some pics. :( O really wanted the sharks but you are the second person to tell me that so I will listen....
Thanks Again.

Here is a link for your Rena filter and how it works.

The plastic bin is a wet/dry filter. The plastic balls are the bio-media called Bio-Balls. They should not be cleaned because they house the benificial bacteria. Here is a write up on wet/dry's

They can be used on both fresh and salt systems.

If you are going to lightly stock your tank, you can get away with just using the canister filter.

I can't be of much help with stocking. My preferences probably are not what your family wants to look at. It's best to ask the family what they want. Maybe take them on a fish outing and let them pick some fish.

Also, I over stock many of my tanks. I also over filter them too.

I dont want to be annoying I just wanted to share a pic I found of a ID shark little while ago...
