i would use the wet dry either way get a mag 9 pump and run the rena best of both worlds.... as far as what kind of fish should you do its all up to you

My 300 gallon freswater tank is as follows:

EQUIPMENT:
300 gallon acrylic tenecor (8'x2'x30")
Dual Eheim 2260 canister filters (I clean the filters every 8-9 months or so)
Natural play sand for the substrate
Some plants here and there
Natural african root pile for fish to hang out in
4 3' NO (Normal output) flourecent bulbs

STOCK:
5 x Fully grown (10") Tinfoil Barbs
4 x 2" Bala sharks
1 x 13" pleco (common)
1 x 4" pictus cat
1 x 6" flagtail procholoidous (Not sure on spelling off hand)
3 x 5-6" Clown loaches
1 x 4" taiwan reef chiclid
1 x 2" taiwan reef chiclid (Baby born in my tank)
1 x 5" blue unkown chiclid
1 x 4" orange chiclid
2 x 3" yellow chiclid
(All the chiclids were give ups that I took in so I have no clue what they are)
1 x 6" red crawfish
3 x 2" flying fox
2 x 2" white tip catfish

As for activity I like the tinfoil barbs as well as bala sharks. When I had my 150 I had fully grown bala sharks but that might have been too small for them as they were very jumpy if you walked by the tank and would try to jump out and obviously his the tank top doing so. These were 11-12" fish too. Very cool that big but again a bit jumpy. The tinfoil barbs are equally nice but less jumpy.

I like the colorations of the chiclids but don't like the tempermant of them so I decided to go community with a larger variety and less attention to water as well. Just tap water with dechlorinator, clean the filters once or twice a year at the most, and maybe I will do a water change every other month at the most.

Hope that helps.
