They're not as slow as you might think. Ask him how fast his Xingu, Sao Francisco, and Tapajos (same varient as mine) lacerdaes grew. The aimara varient that you're thinking of that grows slow is the Amapa aimara. All his other aimaras have grown at a pretty fast rate. His ulto Tocantins Aimara was my favorite.

I have also read multiple posts from ashdavid stating how slow growing aimara are. He did not specify the amapa he just said "aimara" Maybe XR and I are both reading it wrong or david did not specify. Perhaps he meant they are extremely slow growing from 20" to 30"+ I remember this clearly because I always thought to myself how strange it was for a fish that gets so big to grow so slow.

Like many other fish, aimara slow down once they reach a certain size. Aimara usually slow down around 18" or so. So, in a sense you are right, but 18" is still a big fish. It's going to take a while before it gets to 30" if it ever does in captivity. There are malas that get to 20", so size and growth rate does greatly very within a species.

George from sharkaquarium is selling his hoplias aimara..........3k and its 3ft I think. He mentioned pickup only!

SA had a 7 to 8 incher a few months ago for about $1000.00. doubt its still there, but i'm sure they could get more.
