Hello everyone. I am new here but I am a regular over at aquariacentral.

2 years ago, I purchased two barbs from the LFS where I worked that came in from a canadian supplier as "big scale diamond sharks" which had the latin name puntius daurphani.

These barbs looked like regular tinfoil barbs, only had bigger scales, and had orange instead of red fins.

I looked them up in the baensch atlas vol. 2 (listed as Pale Barbs) and they had an adult size of 7 inches listed, so I put the pair in my 65..well, of course the size listed is bull****. LOL

well, two years later, they had to be moved into my 90 and one of them is 18 inches long, the other is 16 inches long (!!)

I was looking to see if any of you monster fish keepers has keeped this beauties before, and if so, how much larger are they going to get?

they are already too big for my 90 (I am saving up for a 150 or 180 for them currently).

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Here are some shots of these monsters in the 90:

they're not tin foil barbs.

they're yellow-fin barbs. they'll get pretty big, about 24".

I had a group of 8 juveniles, very fun to keep.

How long does it take them to get that big?

Those are some awesome looking barbs.

wow! I figured their growth rate would slow as they matured.

its slowing down now in my tank because I can't feed them any more than I already do without risking water quality problems.

in a 180 or something, I am sure I could feed them more and they would continue to grow.

these fish have monster appetites. You could sit there and feed them for an hour and they would still eat!

I have a few fish like that as well! lol
