Looking for inspiration

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I can't find the picture right now, but I saw someone once take some driftwood that looked like a tree in fall, and grow moss on the end of the branches to make it look like an underwater bonsai tree.

I've also seen someone twist 3 nylon ropes together, stand it up vertically in the fishtank, and have a moss column growing on it. Of course, there are also moss walls and moss carpets but those are pretty standard.

Is this tank going to be an open top by any chance?

Not an open top... Although i think i know what your thinking and yea, i wish i could have the driftwood sticking out above the top of the tank :)

Not sure how to post a video or whatnot, but I guess a link alone works just as well.
It might not be your style (its iwugami or however you spell it) but I think even for a more chaotic and big plant tank it is good to know of some other styles. Personally, I love the plant he uses as a carpet, I've tried dwarf hairgrass and dwarf baby tears but I find them both to have small roots and both to be a pain to attempt to plant if you already filled up with water, but it seems like s. repens has large thick roots.

I'm half way through that video, and i have to say, for any one whos just venturing into the iwagami(sp) style of aquascape should definitely check it out... very helpful info in there...

I like Filipe's work... i've seen a few of his tanks before, just never knew who designed them...

This these 2 i thought is quite interesting:

^ Thanks for the link... i didn't realize the rock work was fake, and that he had actually put the bonzai tree inside... very clever trick indeed...

Its the little ideas like that, that really get me thinking...

Yea in that forum we had a chat with him.... His chat interview was interesting too... Also better to get first hand tips.... Not that I am very into planted... But hopefully someday I can :)

^ Yeah, i'm kinda lucky coz i know a few LFS' here that specialize in planted tanks, and one of the guys has won a heap of ADA competitions, including 1st place in the Large tank category who is extremely helpful with any questions i have, infact i should be seeing him tomorrow to hopefully grab some stuff for the tank and maybe bounce a few ideas off him...
