Before You operate on your fish try giving it and epsom salt bath. If it is a flid filled cyst of somthing of that nature the epsom salt will draw the fluid from it. If the "lump" goes down youno it is a fluid filled sac if not you may be dealing with thyroid or food as Dispatch said. I would try this 1st and see what happens in a day or two.
