Looking For My Monster

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It was now time to fill the sump. I made two more water runs. I swear that water is evaporating faster that I can replenish it. I found a pinpoint water leak in the bottom corner. (See number 1 in the picture) I had to drain the sump for repairs. When the water was removed, I put a fan on it and went to visit the LFS. When I returned I put silicone on every seam the tank had and let it dry overnight.

Number 2 in the picture is my cat bed sheets that “SteveR” will no doubt point out.

The sump has been cleaned and is starting to look pretty good. I did not like the way one side bowed. It may have been safe, but I just did not like the looks of it. I made a saddle of scrap lumber at work and gave it a coat of black paint. It was almost too tight. I finally did get it in place with some help & it looks much better now. There is still much work to be done before we will be enjoying this tank.

Wow..... That sure is coming along nicely. So you plan to fill it up and then clean it really thoroughly then a large water change or ? Pardon my ignorance I haven't dealt with anything that size yet :)

Any new inspiration for your stocking ? I vote panther grouper and some lions.... Maybe a nice eel like "canucks"

Ahaaa Yes, Stocking. Well the fish I want the most is a Mandarin goby. I thought the 125 gallon was too small to keep one in. I want to create a natural environment so it will be healthy. I hear of too many people who have one for a year or so before it starves to death. I think I can have sufficient live rock to breed enough live food for one. I plan to keep all small fish of about the same size as the Mandarin. I am looking into some ways of covering the back walls with rock at the present time. I am expecting four metal halide lights in the next few days. The next project will most likely be building some kind of hood for the lights. I have something in mind I want to try. I will post details and pictures soon.
Thanks for asking

That is awesome ! I hear them starving is the most common cause of failure to keep them so I applaud your efforts here. Should be quite a natural and awesome spectacle with all the small fish in such a huge tank.

I gotta ask again how you plan to clean it ?
