Looking For My Monster

Oh yea, Cleaning. Two friends and I are working on a plan for that now. The best way we see so far is to have a panel over the tank that opens from the viewing side. That would give me access to the front glass by standing on a short ladder. I am planning to enclose the tank with a wall built around it in the garage.

When we originally moved the aquarium, we noticed there were some five gallon pails containing dead coral outside the back door. A further examination revealed pieces of dead coral lying about in many places. When one of my friends made mention of them, I inquired as to their fate. I was told I could take them if I wanted them. We gathered up as many of them as we could find and brought them home. Now that the sump was up and running it was time to deal with them. I washed each piece one at a time and threw out all the small crushed and broken parts. All of the pieces of any size went into the sump to provide more surface area for bacteria to grow on. There are still a number of pieces of dead coral mixed in with the live rock that will also end up in the sump.
