looking for new tank mate

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No Geos are quite peaceful

An oscar would be fine with catfish, oscars just get too big for that tank. The person that mentioned the gold saum was refering to a green terror
(aequidens rivulatus), not a gold severum. If you get one of them, you're not going to get much more in the tank. You could also do severums, though (2 at most). The Geophagus would be great for your tank. Very calm, easy going, and fun to watch! You could combine a better variety with them. Good luck in whatever you choose!

gold saum is the common green terror, what you are likely to find at a LFS. they also have white saums. i have 2 severums in a 55g tank and they are doing great, they're still young though. most geos get too large and do better in larger groups, plus they're quite active so i dont think this size tank would be fitting for geos. you could do a pair or single uara or a few discus.

Not all geos get that large. Steindachneri get about 7". Uaru get just as large and are just as much a schooling fish.

didn't have any problems with the oscar and the catfish, was a bit of a love hate relationship with the pleco and the oscar but not aggressive behaviour!!
thanks for the advice the geophagus has a deformality but has great colouration and character!thanks for all the other suggestions- what do you think to the emerald cichlid?

The chocolate (emerald) would probably be ok. As with the gt, you're not going to get much more in there though due to they're eventual size. But then again, with the direction you're headed with most of the fish mentioned, you're looking at one big fish with maybe one smaller one and a cleaner of some sort.

hi guys, thought i'd better give you an update. have gone for fish that get to 6" have gouramies, geos, catfish, pleco, scissortails and a mogurnda goby have all settled in well, although the goby is still finding his feet.Corin
