Looking for ray keepers' advice on heating bigger systems....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Heater is on the outside so fresh air is pulled in from garage air so no moisture goes through it. Even though system is sealed if I turn exhaust off my garage turns into a rain forest when cold out LOL. The exhaust fan vents through my roof. I used a hydroponic inline 4" fan.

I was worried about heating issues when I first put my 560gal in my garage.
What I did was totally inclose my tanks with 1/4" plywood and insulate the inside with 1/2" styrofoam. I use 3-300 watt heaters and use submersible pumps that help with the heating also.
The heat from the tank stays in the stand making my heaters have to do very little work. ImageUploadedByMonsterAquariaNetwork1354115175.314113.jpg

I use 700 watts on my 1200 gallon system, keeps it at 28 celcius. Also have autodrip on 25-26 degrees. Keeping the room hot is by far the easyest way to keep the tanks hot. My aquatic room is never under 27 celcius, also keeps the humidity low since the temp is the same as in the tanks. Floor tanks lay on 26 with no heater, and middlerom tanks stay at 28 with no heater.

Agreed. I used to have a vent free heater in my basement of my old house which my basement was my fish room and the vent free heater kept 122 tanks heated. I had 3 250 watt heaters in my sump(88 tanks were plumbed together) so the heaters were just extra. Ambient room temp makes a huge difference and being vent free heaters use propane it wasnt too expensive, 100 bucks a month maybe to keep 122 tanks at temp.
