What’s everyone using these days for efficient pumps? I use the hydrive on my main tank but definitely not Easy on the electric bill or cost to buy. But they’ve been running forever I’m not happy with the Quietone brand I’ve had one for about 2 years and its on its way out. How are these DC pumps?

Fluval sp series is what I use. It has the bullet proof askoll motor. The sp6 uses I think 120w @ 3400gph. I have an sp4 that is 1800gph @ 88w. The head on these is good as well.

I'll mention something about jebao. I haven't had this happen myself, but I've seen 2x along with a video. The controller overheats to the point of catching fire. An 8k and 12k. I was browsing through YouTube and found a recent video of a guy on vacation when he noticed something crazy on his apex. His buddy went to check it out and it was the controller for his jebao pump. I've never had this happen personally but it's enough for me not to use it.

Aside from the fluval I use eheim, sicce, and have a workhorse old school quiet one 5k

+2 Jebao

I buy bigger than I need Jebao pumps because I can just dial down their flow with the controller. I like the feeding function... press the feed button and the pump goes to about 10% flow for 5 minutes so all the fish food doesn't sucked over the overfow.

Hit or miss with Jabeo dc pumps and can’t recommend for now. A fan for fluval sea sp series. Only issue is you’ll need valves before and after the fluval sea pumps to adjust flows but reliable.

Wow, as someone who's currently running 6 Jebao DC pumps in 4 tanks (and usually travels 2-3 times a month for business), that sounds kind of scary. I wonder which Jebao model it was -- I Googled and searched YouTube for "jebao pump controller fire" but couldn't come up with anything -- if you remember the name of the video, or if you run into the link again please share.

Unfortunately we really don't have too much choice here (besides other Chinese brands). Most of my Jebao's are newer models (DCP & DCQ), but your post makes me think it would be prudent to change especially the 2 older DCT-models.

Here's the video. He talks a lot

It started with one of my rw8 powerheads. The controller was very warm @ 50%. Then another friends dc8k went out and turns out his controller failed. We felt the controller on his bigger pump and it was very warm to the touch I think it was a dc12k or 15k.

I've heard a few other reefers mention it as well. One just happened to be home when his caught fire. I know plenty of people that run them no problems but this was enough to make me pass on jebao products. I was about to buy a jebao 55w uv sterilizer to

Holy moly, Thx for sharing that. The one he had a problem with was the older DCT. I was already planning to take out one and replace it with a new model, going to have to do that with the other one as well after watching that video. I'm sure even the newer models aren't as good as the brands you and others mention, but they do claim to have better safety features and one can only hope/assume the controllers have also become better.

That said it goes to show that you generally get what you pay for. Unfortunately if I were to order US or European made pumps online, after shipping and customs the cost just wouldn't be workable.
