Looking for some Ideas...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Oh right right, I totally spaced out about the frontosas. Well the gobies are going to be boderline as well, the Tropheus would probably work out and add a lot of color but they need very specific diets.

The gobies are fast and often stay near safe spots. Fronts hunt when light is low and most fish sleep. A cyp will be more out in the open as opposed to a gobies that will be hiding or near a place the front will have more trouble eating...

Yeah, I don't think tropheus would work. They are to prone to bloat because of their dietary habits. Fronts are predators who need meaty foods and I don't think tropheus would mix well. I also suggest calvus or comps. They should work out great.

I know a few people that keep neolamprologus sexfaciatus gold with thier fronts.Sounds like a nice contrast.

Some folks keep cyps with thier fronts but every once in a while a few dissapear. Also have heard of folks using some of the larger central american livebearers like large sailfin mollies.

You could get some Buffalo Heads. Mike could even ship them to you.

I do like feather fins! The Paracyprichromis, Neolamprologus sexfaciatus gold - these look pretty cool, would the neolamp. sexfaciatus gold get along with my neolamprologus helianthus?? I know some neolamps have bad temps to others and some dont. I see some gobies I like too. I will prob. look and see whats at the ACA this week too.

I will stay away from trophs. I ve delt with them before, They were pretty cool but I lost 3 that had jumped the tank and 1 to bloat. I had them on spirulina(sp).

Does anyone know of a good site or seller that has some of these fish? (Not sure if I will order soon but just incase.)

Those are some I will def. think about.

I neeed a change lol!! I am just havent had many tangs sooo I am really looking forward to the new experience.

The Neolamp. sexfaciatus gold has typically neolamp. additude. Will scrap w/the helianthus, but nothing to serious. Try the numbers game when adding new tankmates. I try to add several new guys and kill the lights when I add new fish to my tang tank. I am def. on board w/Comps and Calvus, maybe try some morphs you haven't done in the past. Featherfins will look awesome in a 150 as well.

All the ones I know about originally came from reservestockcichlids.com
Well the place isnt far from me and it was a group visit.
An easy place to spend your life savings lol

As it's been said a million times, the best tankmates for fronts.....are fronts.
-Calvus and comps do work well though and I do keep them with my Kaps
-I've had leilupi but they can be fin nippers and pretty aggresive
-tropheus and any other fast moving fish is not a good idea as they will stress the fronts out
-You can try some feathfins like O. foai, but they can get pretty mean when spawning and I have seen some crazy males who will build a sand pile all the way to the top of tank

It's all trial and error though and what works for some may not work for others, but just remember that they are opportunistic feeders and just because everything seems fine doesn't mean it won't be food someday. In one of my first front tanks I had some other fish with them for almost two years, then one day a poor little venustus (6 inches) went to the top to get some food while I was feeding, and my alpha male came out and swooped him up

Oh and can't forget about the Mpimbwe experience.....
