Looking for some schooling fish for my 110g

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
had some tiger barbs but they harassed the angels and as for danios I could try some of those as there 68c each here and im sure would get the bichirs attention lol

1,000 NEON TETRAS!!!

Lol, just kidding.

Do you want a larger schooling fish, like the silver dollars or smaller schooling fish, like skirt tetras or tiger barbs, or mini schooling fish, like neon tetras?
Since when could you fit 1000 neon tetras? They would breed like mad. You have to buy 999 so they don't all have a mate.

If you like a lot of movement giant danios would be great for you. They drove me insane with how erratic and fast their movements were but they can avoid bichirs well once they are around 2.5 inches. they get ignored compleately.

I had a 3 inch giant danio get eaten by my original sen who was about 8 inches at the time probly cuz his tummy grumbled once when I fasted the tank for 3 days
but ya I could try a few of them there definitely cheap enough or the denison barbs

I agree that barbs can be really cool, butttt they are a bit aggressive every so often. So IFFF you ever want to add shrimp it would certainly not work out with them. Plus for some reason, barbs often seem to gang up on the "runt" of the group. Not always, but it's not uncommon that's for sure.

My choices without question would be....

5-6 bala sharks - They're extremely active high level swimmers and have a beautiful silver coloration with black tail fins. They are never aggressive, cheap, and easy to find as LFS. The only downside is that yes, they can grow quite large but with 100 gallons and these being the only sizable fish: you'd be fine. Plus it would take a couple years before they really get substantially sized.

5+ Roseline Sharks - This is probably going to be the best option for a planted tank PERIOD. They only get to be a few inches in size, are very active as well and overall are just a more prestigious fish to own. They are not impossible to find but certainly not easy either. Plus, where bala's are usually $5 - $12 each, Roselines are usually $20-$30 each. Either way, both of these fish are fantastic community tank schools that won't mess with your plants or even with shrimp should you elect to add them at some point.
