looking for the most colorful south/central cichlid

Vieja synspilum.....you'll be able to see every colour in the rainbow on them! Depending on size of your tank, you could probably get away with a pair...

Vieja synspilum gets my vote, it's amazing how the colours change, since I put my pair into the 180g they show their colours much better, but saying that there are many colourful CA/SA cichlids and tastes differ.

im selling my Vieja synspilum if you live in southern california. its about 4-5 inches.

if you are going to put it in 55g
I suggest a smaller cichlid like different kind of Firemouth,or maybe a redhead severum and a couple of zebra plecos

but if you plan to get a much bigger tank
all kinds of Viejas

blue dampsey
some of geophagus

Neetroplus are the way to go!!!

Neetroplus nematopus are rather dull blue/grey but the are unmatched in tenacity. however neet. panamensis are beautiful some are gold/yellowish, other races are red. Both neet. species stay rather small 5 inches.I kept both neets. before. Amphilophus rthysma are one of the most colorful fish I've kept. veja hartwegii, theraps lentigenossum,amph.bussingi (if you can find them) all of these are rare in U.S. as I'm looking for them also; had some bussingi yrs. ago wish I would have got lents. & harts. when I saw them.the last is thoricthys passiones(spelled wrong) also a mild small cichlid.
