i'm really interested in natives and i want to expand my collection
how would i go about catching:
lmb
smb
bluegill
brown bullhead
pumpkinseed
pickrel
black crappie
longear sunfish
green sunfish
walleye
longnose gar
bowfin
yellow perch
* these species i might be able to catch but it is not likely
im hoping to get them at 3" or less
any tips on catching these species at this size?
at what time of year would i find fry of these species?
what kind of habitat could i find these species?
i can hold my breath for quite awhile and i'm a strong swimmer so if i need to get wet it wont be a problem :D
i am also hoping to catch some baby turtles, specificly painted turtles and stinkpots. any tips on when and where i could find these?

walleye
do you realize how big they get and how mean they are
same with bowfin

i caught a baby lmb and longnose gar with a net. (not casting net) one that is used to net fish out of tanks.

search fish trap
looks like they would work
"midnight" is using a cast net to find lots of watery things

...dynamite

where the heck would you catch gar and bowfin in NE?
even walleye are pretty hard to find

i use a bait trap to catch small bluegills and pumpkinseed
if you want i can sell them to ya :)

chum the water with corn, and use a throw net....you'll be prizes of what you catch.

most of these fish we find around here as babies just below this dam.
theyre all slightly stunned and we can catch them easy, though most of them dont make it.
if theres an area like that up there, try there

Minnow/fish trap will work for most of the species you listed. Try near shore in shallow, weedy/rocky areas. Young pickerel can be found in shallow weedy areas as well. If you are good, you can catch them with your hands.

You should also check state laws regarding the capture of fish. Some are considered game fish and have certain size/capture methods regulations.

In this area, most turtles hatch out in September/October. I've never caught baby stinkpots, but have found adults sunning themselves at the surface in thick floating weedbeds.
