Those Silver Dollars that get really big,I'm talking about 10 inches long and nearly that much high.I have only seen 1 once it looked like a dish.Do any of you guys know what i am talking about,if so pic's would be appreciated!!
Either a Mylossoma species, red hooks or black bars (M. Schromburgki)
These can all reach 12"+ I have a few red hooks around 8-9" and a 10" female but this really does need a big tank and take a long time of regular waterchanges and a very good quality varied diet to get them to this sorta size.
Those aren't silver dollars those are hub caps! i have allways heard that red hooks got real big if you treated them like a juvi discus. Like Bruce said, alot of water changes and many feedings thru the day of high quality foods. i read about a guy that fed only live brine shrimp and spirlinia(?) pellets and had remarkable growth on some reds
