I am trying to find information on a specific breed of Cichlid. I am pretty sure it is SA. It is ex-Cichlosoma pearsei, the only info I found was on websites in Europe. They say you need a large tabk but all the measuremenst are in Metric. I also was wondering if this species is available in the US? I have not been able to find anyone selling them. Either online or in my area.

Cichlasoma pearsei is a Central american cichlid.
They are large growing up to 15 inches in length, but are relatively peaceful. I wouldn't keep one in a tank smaller than 75 gallons, especially if you get a large male. Beautiful fish. Definitely one I hope to keep as well.

I am playing on getting a 120 gallon in the future so that's no problem. But can you buy them here in the US?
Yeah, you can get them here in the states. You may have to look around a bit though. Aquabid is usually good for finding cichlids that are a little more out of the ordinary. Otherwise you can try asking around on the forum. Someone might have some fry for sale.
I traded mine in for an Argentea a month or so ago. They grow big and fast! In the short time that I had mine, it grew several inches longer, taller, and wider. When I traded it back to the LFS they were surprised at how much it grew in that little time. I have seen large ones and they are very peaceful. But they will stand and defend themselves which is good if they are housed with other large cichlids.

I suppose that would depend on your location. Around here, anything that isn't ordered in by Big Box stores is rare. I've never seen a pearsei myself other than pictures on the net, so here yes, they are rare. Maybe in socal or some other big cities they are not so rare.
