Looking to adopt a child?

My churches pastor adopted two Chinese girls. Both abandoned by their parents because of the one child policy. I see no problem with adopting foreign kids if the person wants to...
My cousin has also adopted two kids both from Guatemala.

I wasn't saying there's a problem adopting foreign children. I'm just saying that there are plenty of abandoned/foster/ orphans in the U.S.

I see your point. Obviously if someone wants to adopt they should look in the us first unless they really wanted to help a kid out.

a child is a child. I don't care where they are rescued from

but I would personally try to adopt here first

anyways, feel bad for the Russian guy that died in jail

Yes, a child is a child, but foreign adoption still is, in my mind, a status thing and a grey area ( shady business- of course if it is for the childs benefit, i can live with shady, but it isn't allways ).

The rules in europe and in the us are very strict, and hindered by bureaucracy and that is why desperate people turn elsewhere, where children end up being a commodity.

I agree that, as a principle, we should try to adopt in our countries, because there is, as said, no shortage of kids needing it.

Heck, NO KIDS SHOULD NEED IT!!

why does it matter where the child comes from? if a child needs a lovng home and somone can give one why should country or race be a factor. why stop at your country are all kids in need just kids.

Well Brangelina were certainly over 40 when they adopted their younger children and although I don't know about the US, here adoption over 40 is forbidden.

It really should not matter as all children need a loving family
but at the same time why look past multitudes of needy children in order to adopt from somewhere else?

From the individual child standpoint its irrelevant. From a societal standpoint there is a difference. Its the children in your area tha t are going to grow up and be part of your community and need a proper home so that they have a better chance of being contributing members in that community. When you adopt from abroad you help that child and that town while sweep local children of need under the rug only to emerge as adults in your town that didn't get a fair shake at becoming all that they can.

Part of the reason for adoption foreign is because of the cost difference between foreign and domestic. It's also much easier to get an infant or toddler if it's foreign than American. Unfortunately many of the kids here up for adoption are older kids who have been in the system and have issues because of it. There is also a much longer wait list to get a young child here than if you go foreign. For example when my wife was adopted she was brought over from Ireland when she was only a couple of months old, this was after a 4+ year wait and over $40,000. Her brother who was born here they got lucky on and only had to wait 5 years for(because they already adopted from the agency their wait was only half as long as normal) and he was over $60,000. That's a big difference when it comes to wait time and cost incurred. From what I've been told there also was a lot less paperwork and lawyers needed for my wife than her brother so it was a simpler process overall.
