:)Hi everyone,
I'm new here and im seeking advice for a pet. My friend is hugely into sharks. shes going to school for marine biology, she has a shark tattoo and talks about them all the time.
I want to get her a pet shark for christmas, all the pictures ive seen so far dont really look like sharks. Can anyone help me?
Thank you

I would recommend that this thread be moved to the Sharks/Rays Forum.

I would also recommend that you do a lot of homework on this before you go surprising someone with a pet shark. They are difficult to keep as pets and need a very specialized habitat.

Good Luck.

Before you go to sharks forum I worn you: VERY BAD IDEA:grinno: Its always a bad idea to give animals as presents let alone a animal so demanding as a shark;)

Moved.

My local Wal-Mart store sells Bala Sharks, I'm sure yours does too... They are easy to keep and are very active.

Yeah dude, bad idea....

You could give her one of those shark mouth skeleton things instead. That'd be cool.
The dvd/ book idea is good too.

Or you could get her a stripper dressed up as a shark....

A bala shark is not a shark... Do what you want to do. Keeping true marine sharks is extremely difficult and expenisive so know what your getting yourself into... They are also sensitive to water quality.. Large tank, lots of research is required.. Good luck.

mmmm.. bad idea.

never ever suprise someone with an animal as a gift.

Does she already have a marine setup that you know can house a shark?
Not to mention that there are all different sizes and species of shark and depending on which one you want, you need to set up an evironment suited to that species.

A BlackTip Reef shark will not do well in a 55 gallon aquarium with a Whisper filter. :grinno:

These animals are only for the EXPERIENCED Aquarist. I would never ever want anyone to buy a fish for me as a suprise unless i told them in advance what fish and I trusted that they knew exactly what to look for.

I know you're trying to be a good friend. But TRUST us.

Sharks are my favorite animal. I have a tatoo also.

Try these as gifts instead:
Shark Earings
Shark Necklace
Shark Sculpture (or other decor)

;)
