They're not fish, but aquatic frogs can be pretty cool...saw some pipa pipa (Surinam toads) for sale recently and they were rather unique in appearance

After a cursive google search, you can definitely say they are unique lol. They look like a car has run over them

The US native fish Green Sunfish and Redfin Pickerel would both be fine in that size tank and are quite impressive predators. Also maybe grammodes cichlid, cuban cichlid, bartoni cichlid, loiselle cichlids? I think they would probably all be fine kept as single specimens in that size tank.
