hi everyone,
i now have an empty ten gallon and was wondering if theres any cichlid i could breed that could make me a little extra money so i could support my hobby. i thought about cons but im not sure about them. i was thinking i could do krebs or rams too but i wanna hear what you think.

see whats hard to come by in the shops around your area (ask them), then ask the lfs if they will take from local breeders. no point breeding fish that no one will take.
then try and get a pair of which ever rare fish comes up that will fit in a 10g.

I used to breed gold rams in a 10 gallon but the fry take forever to grow to a saleable size and you have to have a grow out tank for the fry seperate from the adults. Seems like about 4-6 months before they were big enough to sell. Go with fancy guppies. They breed like rabbits, grow quick and always sell.

I have posted a pic of some of the baby rams I raised along with the 5 gallon setups I used to hatch/grow them out.

i you have more space, then breeding something like discus or angels could get you something in return, but not in a 10 gal

id say 2 african cichlids that sell well are the electric yellow labs. mouthbrooders you can pull about 30-50 babies from there mouth. i use to do this along time ago and sell them around 1.5-2 inches for 3.00 each store credit. helped buy carbon and stuff like that. angelfish turn around real quick but id say you would need a 20 for a pair. good luck whatever you decide.

um cryptoheros nanoluteus!!!!! gorgeous fish! stay very small too! i believe a 10g would be fine for breeding. very hard fish to come by. look like yellow and blue cons. get some! that might make you a little extra fish food money!

upon further research i have found that they can get to 5". im sure if breeding is started early enough though you may be able to stunt them.
