Thanks, unfortunately I won't be able to talk to my agent until the 28th( holidays :irked:) and if that won't work I'll go over her head and raise some hell.

so why are you taking down your tanks? because the tanks arent covered from what?

Water damage in case of a blowout/leak. I setup $30k worth of coverage 7-8 months ago because I told them that I would be setting up two large(for me) fish tanks and that I wanted to make sure in case something were to happen and they broke that I would be insured for any damages that would occur.

Guess i didnt tell them about mine back when i rented.I also had state farm.I got rid of them later anyways.Whatabout getting a leagal form and you and the lord making a doc that you could sighn that youll cover charges and such if anything should happen?
My landlord doesn't have a problem with the tanks, I asked her before I bought them. It's mainly for my peace of mind since I don't have the funds to cover a flood.

i too have state farm renters insurance, but it only covers fire and theft, no flood coverage.

You know whats BS they said in case of an accidental breakage they are not covered however if someone were to break in and burglarize my apt and broke them they would cover it (police report needed). :screwy:

You would be suprised by how they would react when you merely threaten such a thing. I'm not saying that you need to take it all the way to court. I think if you called them up and talked in a stern voice, you would at least get a refund. Is your car insured through then too? Are they willing to lose you as a customer completely? They will do what is in their best intrest, and that is to keep you happy. If they don't, it will be a bigger loss to them. Also, just because they are a big corporation dosen't mean their word is any better than yours.
i agree with what you said however i believe he said the ins co was snake farm, they could care less whether he leaves or not. as an ins co they really suck, they however are lying to him about his tanks, they do not like to pay water damage claims, however by law they have to. except in a flood, than flood ins comes into play. i would try a better ins co.

How much extra would it cost to add the tank coverage to the policy?
According to the lady that I spoke with they don't offer it.

I decided to call home and ask my mom what she thought about the situation and she said to look and see if I can find a place that offers up insurance and in the mean time just get a large wet/vac (already planned on doing this anyways) since I live on the bottom floor and don't have to worry about anybody living below me.

IDK

Call another insurance company.. shop around before you do anything drastic.. get facts and stand up to them.. just like everyone said..sometimes you really have to get firm with them.. i wish you the best because i know you need and enjoy your fish.. :(

Dude get a shop-vac and if the tank leaks clean it up, shampoo the carpet, spray some air freshener and move out..

Are these tanks used? If they are newer, I really wouldn't worry about leaks unless the tanks are unlevel..

If they say anything say "I don't know what your talking about.. a tank leaked?'.. If no ones below you, I wouldn't worry about jack..

I lived in an apt (with horrible mgmt) for a year with a half dozen 55g tanks.. got some bad mold and had some bad overflows. All they did was not let us have our damage deposit back, so i didn't care..

I would call your insurance company back though and throw a big fit about how they are liars and you were lied to and deceived..
