Loose Skin?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Alright...I'm pretty sure it's some blockage going on in there. I fed him a few pellets and he blew up like he swallowed 10 of them. I doubt pellets would make him swell that much.

it's dropsy. stop feeding it and keep your water conditions pristine.
Also you could add about 2 tps of salt for a 2ft tank and 4 tps for a 4ft tank to help it recover quickly.

Most fishes don't recover from dropsy but bichirs are tough and they can.

Not dropsy.

It's not dropsy as it's scales are not protruding and it doesn't have pop eye either.

So here's the update...

I'm sure it's backed up. I tried feeding it Spiralina Wafers (kind of trying to feed it some fiber). It's stomach got incredible huge. Yesterday I went to go check on it and it had a very thin string of feces that was maybe 1.5" long hanging out, not the usual feces that I would normally see out of Polys.

Anything else I can do?

And I say one more time STOP FEEDING IT.

I don't feed it everyday. I give him a small amount of food every 2 weeks. I'm not going to let it starve and I wanted to see if a high fiber diet helps.
