Hey guys is this a normal coloration for a Losielle? I never see this fish, very shy/secretive, just noticed it’s crazy iridescent and bluish.

Not in my experience, I have kept them on and off since the 90s, where did you get it?

The coloration is really interesting, I recall Don Conkel offering a what he called a Sp. Green sometime ago which resembled these. He claimed that they were new a guapote from Panama, they turned out to Loisellei from Panama, they looked like yours...

i got this one from That Pet Place. Its about an hour drive from me and they usually have some really nice fish. Ive had Losellie's from them before though, they just never looked like this. Maybe male/female differences, I'm not sure.

The markings seem to line up with a Loiselli, the color just reminds me more of Jack Dempsey’s I’ve had in the past than any Parachromis.

Wow live this species and that fish looks amazing. Looks like loisellei to me just colors are off/morphed

Stunner bro

I would consider that in the pics, the substrate is black, and the background is also dark. Most cichlids I've kept have the ability to somewhat adapt their general coloration (like a chameleon) to the surroundings.
If you put the same fish on a white substrate, it "may" drastically change, and wash out.

Plus I can see the blue spots from your LED lights changing the color too. All and all it’s a cool effect and makes for a fine looking fish. Nice pickup

I'm pretty sure the base dark coloration has something to do with the fishes status in the tank. Its not a very hostile tank, but like I was saying, that fish is very shy and prefers to hide out which probably affects how it presents its color. Also, my gravel is black in all my tanks, standard issue, and I've seen that decision make quite a few fish go dull in color. Duanes has a good point.

The lighting may contribute too, I never thought of that, and it probably is what is bugging me. I just got that beamswork light off of eBay and it is definitely the first LED light I have ever had. Maybe the spectrum of light they give off can lend that bluish tint to the fish. Thats pretty cool, ill just tell everyone I meant to do that now.
