loss of pet... or fish

Being a vet tech, my opinion is very biased, but....

I feel all life deserves respect in every form it chooses to enter our lives.

But, I do have to admit to different levels of respect. People obviously deserve the highest level (in general anyway, I've met some people I wouldn't place above the lowest bacterium). I rescue various exotic animals and the majority of them receive "communal burials". But, we do plan on having some of our "pet" fish (oscars, eels, etc.) cremated when they die, just as I would one of our cats or dogs. So, I think there do need to be degrees involved.

I love the idea of an area specifically for pet loss. In todays society, it can be very difficult for someone to find any kind of sympathy in this situation. It is very important for them to know they are not alone and it is OKAY to greive for an animal. Studies show it can be as stressful as a divorce and psychologically they need an outlet. That said....

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss Shane. I haven't had much of a chance to get to know you, but I do know you had something special with him that will never be replaced. Greive for him and allow him to live on in that special place in your heart.
 
it certainly feels bad. My reaction when my i saw my green aro died was the same reaction I had when I found my dad dead. Although the pain is not as much when I lost my dad. the pain lingers. for my pet fishes, it was upsetting but I get over it real soon.
 
i keep my fishies in the freezer when they die.
all the time spent feeding them and changing their water, observing them, watching them swim up to the glass when you enter the room. it jus sux that one day they just croak.

maybe in the future someone will find out how to revive frozen things and I can enjoy my fishies again.

last week my 19 year old goldfish past way (i have a tread here somewhere)
RIP Kialy 1987-2006 i buried her in my front yard , and planted a plant over her and i made a tiny cross w/ her instials and date..........my friends laughed at me , but before i got her she had a terrible life in a 15 gal tank. i had her for 2 years , and the last 2 weeks before her death i was a basket case as she wasn't eating , she was loseing control of her swimbladder ......she was close to 2 pounds , how could i put her down ? i couldn't do it
i say if they die in peace and quickly i'm still sad but i can get over it faster, but it's even harder when their death is long and feels like you have to do something , but know deep down there is nothing you can do. empty tank now......
