Yep...not exactly the best days in my fishkeeping life..

I got a pair of widebars about 3 weeks ago.

One of them had a hump in his head, within 3 days the hump had gone down but an open wound with white slime on top of started to appear. At the same time, He suffered from a massive Pop Eye.

At this point, I moved him to a hospital tank.

The time he's in the hospital tank is right at 2 weeks period. During this time, here are the actions that I took to make him better.

1. I added about 2-3 tablespoon of salts per 5 gallon of water and maintain temp of 85 degrees

2. Daily water changes at 30-40%

3. On day 4 of the hospital tank, I treat the tank with Jungle fungus clear AND I applied some Potassium Permanganate on his wound to stop the infection from affecting him from the outside.

4. After 2 days the wounds started to heal, but the pop eye is still there but it has gone down considerably since the first day.

5. After a week with no meds (other than salt and high temp), his eye is ALMOST back to normal. I added Maracyn Two to treat the infection from the inside.

6. Today, I found him dead.

So, I need opinions to see if there is any association between his death and the maracyn 2 ?

I am not sure if there is any connection, but it was the very last thing I did before his death.

Any ideas ?

Stan

Sorry...

Sorry for the loss man. I can't even find a widebar for sale let alone lose one... Ouch indeed...

I have searched A LOT before adding the Jungle Fungus Clear and the Maracyn 2 with Dats. From what I have gathered, there has not any case where the two caused any fatalities with Dats.

Water parameters were fine obviously, I treated according to dosage.

I am just clueless and stumped right now.

sorry man!..i know losing a fish is suck.

This is similar to the affliction that my five inch thinbar suffered. When I first brought mine home I didnt notice anything abnormal but in few days the lump started to form and then the other grew and it got to the point that if the dat was viewed from the front, the lumps could be seen growing from either side of its body.I never was able to find out what the lumps were,I submitted a thread but got no replies and the lumps got to the point that they looked about to burst and my beautiful Thinbar soon died.

Did your thinbar looked like this ?
The lump did look just like that,it hurt just to look at it.BTW you seem to have quite a connection for Pulchers.
