Hm so the main cause of this is that I'm over stocked? Not that I put in a new filter?0
Could be but the filter being new as you say it is should have had no ill effects on your tank. All it would do at this point is keep the tank clear and clean since there is no bacteria colony inside of it yet....You described your AT breathing heavy which might have been a sign of parasites that it could already have been infested with, and finally succombed to.

Hmm didn't see anything and I've had the guy for over two months. Also was eating extremely well the day before. What was odd though was his mouth was partially open as he was trying to breathe. Any idea why that was?

This is how it starts with a lot of the young NTT/Thinbars when they are purchased.Things will be going fine for a few weeks and then they start the gasping and sitting there pumping their gills with their mouths open and soon they die. Some members were calling it sudden death syndrome but it apparently was something that was festering inside of the fish all along. There are quite a few threads here on the thinbar death situation if you want to research it further....I think it was parasites that killed your fish but it could have been something else. What you have mentioned about your tank leans away from your filtration system being the culprit.Did any other fish just up and die?

It could be a number of things but ammonia and nitrie kill fish fact

Some can tolerate it more than others but a AT being a brackish water fish being kept in fresh water may have made it weaker than the other fish

This is a problem with keeping fish in the wrong water parameters like AT

He already said that his ammonia and nitrite levels were low, plus he provided pictures of the water test results....I'm guilty of not doing it myself but I think a good quarantine period with parasite treated water could have helped save this fish..

Thanks guys. I'm pretty worried right now. My nitrates are always off the chart and tested it out of the tap, its at 80 ppm.. Lost on what to even do. Was thinking of adding plants but don't knwo what kind as I have no light on my tank
