Lost my Alligator Snapper today...

sorry for your lost but i kept my ally snapper in a 125 gal tank filled to the top with water since it is also a fish tank .... had it like that for years...the snapper never had a problem...i doubt your snapper drown...small ally snappers are weak so it might had been something else...

especially when you had no current...the snapper could easily gone up for air...

He definitely drown. When I pressed on the sides of his body water was coming out of his nose. His lungs were full of water. He was not a very strong swimmer to begin with, I should have known better.

Anyways, I'm over it now. It happened about 2 months ago.

Alligator snappers don't swim as well as commons do. With that said, I am a firm believer that both should be given deep water with a decent amount of driftwood/plants which allow them to crawl to the surface for air.

Also, turtle CPR. Sounds laughable at first, but it's worked before.

Turtle CPR. The thing would probably be faking it and take my damn lip off.

I just didn't have quite enough places for him to crawl out of the water to rest. And yeah your are 100% right about commons being much better swimmers.

When there young they mainly stay in shallow pools and creeks. At least thats the only place i find them when small. There always in mud puddles next to creeks in the spring. (eatin all the tadpoles)
