Lost my L200

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
the only plecos ive see around here are commons, rubber lips, and the occasional bristle nose. Except were i work, we get gold nugs and royals in once in awhile, and then we got the green phantom in. He was eating hikari algae wafers, not as much as i would of liked but he did get a bit of them before my cichlids and other plecos got to fighting over it. The only place to get other 'fancies' is about an hour away, not what i would consider "local" considering im a 17 year old with no gas money.

should be stress , my african pike , easily spooked, died wedge under a lava rock too.

why do you say that?
I have seen L-200's survive an amazing gambit of water parameters, pH's of 4.0-8.5. My friend used to keep them in his African Cichlid tank with many other plecos ph 8.5, KH 12-15 dKH, GH 30.
I really meant ANY pleco will be indestructible within reason.
How's the breeding program going by the way? Best of Luck!

nah i just wondered why you said they were less hardy. i know them to be quite hardy

You have seen them survive, but not thrive. How long were they kept in these conditions, and how long did the fish live? While yes they can survive quite a range, they don't live well in such conditions. That is the same as saying a pacu can live its entire life in a 55 gallon aquarium... while yes it lives its life in there, it won't reach it's full potential. I'm not saying they aren't tough, but a pH of four would dramatically shorten their life. They are very tough, but it is not recommendable to keep them in conditions like that.

I agree with you, but my friend kept his plecos in an African tank for 8 years without losing a single pleco! Definately the exception, not the norm. He finally moved them to a more suitable environment before getting rid of them completely.

An african tank isn't too bad, especially if it isn't tanganyika. The main param that stands out is the 4.0.

Sorry about the loss too. Losing a fave fish sucks!:irked:
