Today i did a regular water change. All parameters were good, ammonia, nitrate, phosphate all 0, ph 7.2, and temp 80F. Replaced carbon. Everything was ok. I took a 2 hour nap, and when i woke my 12" arowana was floating head down on the bottom:cry::cry:.
Does anyone have any ideas why he might have died? He had no injuries, was eating healthily, and wasn't acting odd.

Sorry to hear such bad news. I'm sure somthing in the replaced water that causing it. Just curious, how much water did you change? There might be chemical that department of water added in the tap water system during certain time of the year for underground water maintenance perhaps?

Sorry to hear about your loss. Hope you find out why it happened. On a more spiritual note, when mines passed subconsciously I put it in my head that it passed for a better reason...for myself or one of my loved ones instead. But that's just me thinking that Aro's are true dragon fishes. Again, I'm very sorry for your loss.

this is how i feel too.. when i was in the hospital 10 years ago in intensive care my arow passed... i still think it had sosaved me.. this is the magic uniqueness of the arowana... they are the superior dragon fish of all fish ..sorry for your loss..

how big was your arowana??? If its a juvenile, they are pretty delicate. any shock and/or stress will do it in.

It was a 30% water change, no more than I usually do.

He was 12".

The only thing I can think of is he got a concentrated dose of water conditioner?? I just don't know.

sorry for your loss bro...

Well... Ammonia, Phosphate and Nitrite (NO2) must be 0ppm, but if you have Nitrate (NO3) 0ppm is not good. Are you sure that your tank is cycled ?
