I want guppies. Lots of them. I want them as feeders for my cichlids and maybe if I end up having too many sell some for some profit.

I will have 6 10 gallon tanks lined up on the desk on the porch. I was thinking of having 3 10 gal. tanks for breeders and the other 3 for fry, for now at least.

So how many female can I have in a 10 gallon and how many male. I'm going to start a new tank every 2 weeks so I will have new fry every 2 weeks. I was also thinking maybe I cud divide the the 10 gallon in half and put a female and male in each half. But not sure if that would be better than just having like 4 female in the whole 10. What do you all think though splitting the 10's or what. :)

I think you should throw in like several females and only a few males. Maybe something like 3 males and like 8-9 females. Once you notice a female pregnant and about to give birth, seperate her and allow the birth, then seperate mom and babies.

Dont worry about dividers, I dont think its a good idea anyway. Thye more females than males will insure lots more breeding.

That's what i thought too. Just use the single 10, idk I thought the 5 gallon thing would be better :screwy: Just more work really. Yeah Was hoping to get at least 5 female if not more per 10 gallon. The males won't like get all defensive and start attacking each other or something. I know cichlids and other fish will pair up and just plain out kill the others.

2 males 10 females, i did some research on it and it was what allot of the breeders where doing on a blog i found. i just got 5 females and 2 males right now and just going to gradually keep females to get the the 10( college budget)

Definitely more females than males. 3-5 females to 1 male. Not sure about the sell for profit as they are easy to come by and cheap, but good luck!

Thanks guys. 10 females would be perfect. I'll try it anyways and will see how it all goes. I doubt that I will make any profit but who knows, their main reason is for feeders anyways. I'm gonna buy all the equipment first. All of the heaters, and their not cheap either. About 15 bucks at petsmart for a 10 gallon heater and that's the cheap ones. Then 2 or 3 air pumps for the sponge filters. The tanks are no problem, people give 10 gallon tanks away like nothing, lol.

Can I put the 10 females and 2 males in a 10 gallon though. I mean the whole 1 inch per gallon rule would be thrown out. Idc really.

ill try to find that link to the blog i went to and post it here. the whole inch per gallon thing is square inches...i dunno if that makes it better
