Lots of tiny BUGS!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I Googled this: Hope it helps.

There are many kinds of bugs that can get into your aquarium. There are Ostracods are one crustacean that can suddenly appear in a aquarium, these one-eigth inch critters are shaped like a clamshell like carapace on the outside and are shrimp-like on the inside.
Now Copepods are another crustacean that appear as tiny white dots moving jerkily across the glass they often resemble the ich parasite but they are harmless, if you look close you may notice they have a tear-drop like shape. Copepods arrive on plants and the water in fish bags brought home from the petstore. They are harmless scavengers and part of the natural zooplankton, they even make good food for fry! You can ignore them, but if there is a large amount, it could mean you are behind on your aquarium maintenance schedule. A good gravel vacumming and water change will reduce their numbers and likely make them unnoticeable.
Springtails are insects that typically live on the surface and can arrive on plants or from the garden. If you have a wet vac that is the best way to get rid of them, simply vacumm them up and hose it out. Spring tails are very common in aquariums, fortunately they are harmless scavengers of fungus and decaying matter.

Even if the bugs are not any of the listed above. Most all tiny bugs found in aquariums are all harmless scavengers and most all can be removed wtih a good water change and gravel vacumm or two.

I know it's a crappy quality video, but do they look anything like this?

They hang around the surface of the water and along the edges of the glass. Do you guys notice them hopping around on the surface? I wonder what they are...I do water checks and everything and all come out perfect, but I just have these little things in there too....

seems very similar to mine. these critters hang around on the surface, where the water line ends all the way to the top of the tank. although i don't notice any hopping on the surface.

but i'll take everyone's advice on less feeding, although i do 30% weekly wc's, i might up that a bit too.

i'll try and take photos when i find some time, that is if i can get these little buggers to show on camera.

Most of those little critters aren't a bad thing most of the time they stay in the substrate eating left over food particles when the substrate gets to dirty they will come out and room around your tank this is usually the only time you'll see them

Just clean out your substrate and they will return to there home don't attempt to kill them all off unless you have possatively ID'd them as harmfull parasites

ive got them on my 125 and turtle tank. I dont worry about the i see the little fish go after them everyonce in a while too
