Ok, so im thinking about getting some sort of wolf fish, but i know nothing about them. ive got some questions:

are there any small enough to live in a 38gal tank?

what is the smallest species?

what can i feed them? will pellets work?

what do wolf fish usually cost? im thinking mostly about the red wolf fish, but if its too expensive i guess ill look for a different species.

A Red Wolf fish or Rainbow Wolf fish only gets to 8 inches, and should fit in a 38 Gallon by itself. They do eat pellets, flakes, feeders, earthworms, tubifex, almost anything. The price can vary. I got mine for $24 from this site. http://www.cichlidstation.com/servlet/the-605/buy-live-cichlid-fish/Detail
Too bad they lowered the price. I could have gotten mine a lot cheaper.

ok, thanks. my lfs is a bit overpriced, so im guessing theyll have them for $25 then.
thanks for your help!

What are the dimensions of the 38g tank? I think a 38g is to small for an adult. Even a 55g is to small for an adult.

You can "keep" one in there but probably not comfortably. My tank is 48L x 18W and I still think that footprint is to small for him.

ok. ill keep that in mind. right now im just trying to look at all of my options for new fish, and my thoughts are ranging from headstanders to cichlids to red wolf fish, so, i guess i can rule out the wolf fish.

I keep a Rainbow Wolffish in a 29 gallon sump. He eats anything you give him. He is all of 8" and doesn't come out of his cave unless it's time to eat.

Don't rule one out, especially if you have the chance to upgrade in the future.

Headstanders are great as well, I used to keep glass headstanders. Those were awesome fish.
