The drain exits into the top of the sump (above the sump water level), so I'm clear there, but I think the loop is creating the same back-pressure problem.

this helps slow thw water down and not bubble so hard when water goes down the bubbles echoing is usually what makes the noise...i crammed bioballs in mine
I'd like to avoid that since it will eventually clog and slow down the drain...
