Ok a little update here. I got the crystals in and mixed up my solution of 4oz(1/4lb.) in a gallon of water and let it set over night to dissolve. The next day i did a 50%WC on my feeder tank and then tested the water for chlorine about 5minutes after the tanks was full and before the filters were turned on. And I found zero chlorine in the water:headbang2. I then tesed for ammonia just to see about the chloramine bond and i also found nothing. Or atleast it was such a small amount that our aquarium test kits could not show it. After a few days with no fish loss or signs of problems in the feeder tank i then went ahead with my WC schedule and changed the breeding tanks and the Htat (payara) tank and have had no ill effect what so ever. I would recommend this stuff to anyone that wants to save some money. The price is under 16bucks shipped and it treats 60,000 gallons if you mix it in a solution. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------let me know if you decide to give it a try and what you think. There is also a good read on wikipedia.com about this sodium thiosulphate that may interest you.
Right on...so as a de-chlorinator good stuff...

i have thought about the heavy metal deal alot and i just can't get over the fact that we are drinking these metals and that is fine by are goverment. So I have concluded if its fine for me then its fine for my fish.
Fish have different types of metabolism. the heavy metals can be a problem. Especially traces of copper from copper piping can be a problem for some fish and invertebrates. I´ve seen such problems occur. As for the safety of drinking water I think you shouldn´t be so trusting. I used to be professionally involved in aquatics but have switched over to naturopathy. Obviously there is a crossover of knowledge in these two occupations regarding water quality and it´s only since i started looking at the human health side of tap water that i´ve become more careful with my fish keeping habits around the issue of water changes. Just keep one thing in mind... just cause it´s not killing us and our pets outright doesn´t mean that no harm is being done. I worry more about heavy metals these days than I do chlorine!:nilly:

Seachem Prime "is a complete conditioner for both marine and freshwater use, that removes chlorine, chloramine, and detoxifies ammonia and nitrite. It also provides essential ions and stimulates natural slime coat. It will also detoxify any heavy metals found in the tap water at typical concentration levels."

This gallon for $53.99 will treat 40,000 gallons of water.

Of course, it is sold in smaller quantities in 50 ml and 100 ml, etc.

Sounds like good stuff. I´ve already opted for a high quality inline carbon filter though.

how long does that last?
The manufacturer rates the cartridge at 1500 gal lifespan (has inbuild bacteria filter) but i´m also using it because of drinking water issues. For doing water changes on large systems it´s not very economical. If you consider the price of buying bottled water to drink though then it doesn´t seem that expensive. Why not tap water... Polar pesticides, hormones, heavy metals, chlorine, bacteria etc
