My 8in jar only wants to hang out in the bottom of my tank. Its a 55gal tank for now, and my water gets a 20% change a week. Any ideas about what could cause this behavior?
check your water as so many people said. add a power head to create some movement. i would say if your water is fine and your aro is eating fine then there is not much to worry if your aro is sitting at the bottom. my silver used to sit at the bottom most of the time. is it breathing heavily when sitting at the bottom?

My jar seems to be eating just fine. I have a powerhead already installed. What am I looking for as far as checking the water (ammoina, nitrate, ph, all of the above?). The fish does not look to be breathing hard

check for ammonia, nitrate and nitrites as these three are important. how long have you had the jar with you. maybe it just needs more time to settle in.

Lol its the water

true true, the cause is water the effect is stress and laying at the bottom lol

Could be the temp, but the fish would probably not eat if the temp was low.

i say your 20% a week w/c schedule is to blame for the stress. It seems way too little.
For one 8" fish in a 55g tank? Seems fine to me, unless he's got no filters or massively over-feeds.

Could be stress, my green does a sulk every now and then, if it gets a fright, or sometimes just out of the blue. Shouldn't be doing it all the time though. Test your water parameters (as everyone else said) and post a pic of the tank.
