Would light from a south facing window behind a fish tank , if the tanks back and sides were painted, would provide enough light for anubias and moss, and algae. the window is an inch above the tank, and I have an open top tank without a light or hood.

probably moss and algae, i think the anubias might develop algae coating before it gets and growth.

I don't want a light because of the power bill, and i like my tank being open toped , the most I'll ever do is put a grate on top.

i just go with artifical then.

Ok, ill try it thanks everyone for the opinions , i guess this one will just be a toss up.

A standard Fluorescent fixture would not impact your power bill very much at all.

most likely this wont impact you bill very much. your airconditioning and appliances uses the most energy in your house, if you want to save money look there. chances are your wasting more energy then the light would use, if your still using incandescent bulbs instead of compact flourscent.

you can always try natural sunlight first . . . if you don't like the results, then you can research flourescents (which I agree, can be found and run fairly cheaply)

Ill try my sunlight first, please unless you know my towns utility rates or my pay check do not assume what is inexspensive for me. thanks for the advice everyone.
