if its left in the pots the roots dont hang out where the fish cant get them.

The roots of my pothos eventually grew out of the holes of the pots. These are eaten.

Good points. When i used pothos, i kept it in an overhead sump (window planter). I didnt use it for too long because it was always too noisy of a setup for me. Ive been wanting to revisit the idea though and just submerging the planter part ways would be a logical jumping off point.

This is a pothos planter I had setup for a few years that worked very well on my old setup. I need to make something new for my current setup as this won’t work on a acrylic tank.

You could do what I did and stick them in a hob but you run the risk of the roots choking out the motor and ruining the hob or potentially flooding I would imagine.

So this is how this turned out. All my fish holed up in the garage. Though it will only be for another couple months as my upgrade plans are coming together quickly.


Got all the community fish in a 150 with two big sponges. Built a temporary setup with the 135 as a live in sump for the midevil and the FH in the 55 reef tank up top. Took the powerhead out of the 55 and put it in the 150 for flow.

All I had to do was demolish some old cabinets, dig the power outlets through from the other side of the wall, and build some shabby but sturdy stands.

May not be ideal, a little crowded, definitely not the prettiest setup, but it is efficient on power and easy to maintain for the time being.
