Low Waterline, how to increase?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This is what I would do, just use clear and you will never see it, thats always the fun with sumps you have to get that perfect water flow, do you have a valve to adjust flow after it leaves the pump? Never adjust the intake side that will hurt the pump.

Put some small pieces of acrylic on the inside if the overflow covering the slits to the level you want your water at.

Thanks for the advice. Please explain as to why it will hurt the pump? You're talking about the drain (incoming line) to the sump I suppose?

Install ball valves in the oveflow lines and cut them back to raise waterline.

actually this is good idea as i did the same but to get rid of the noise. what you do is put a ball valve on one side partially close it and the second overflow will act as an extra where the remaining water will trickle down. that should bring your water level up while reducing any noise coming from the sump. look up the herbie overflow method and you'll get an idea of what im talking about.

You could also raise the standpipe within the overflow box to raise the water level in the tank. All you need is PVC coupling and a smaller piece of PVC pipe that you can cut to whatever size you need.

How tall you make the standpipe will determine your tanks water level. If you think about it, if water isn't going to drain into your sump until it reaches X height (ie.- the top of your standpipe), then X height will become your new water level.

Did you get this worked out? I'd love to see some pix of your tank.

ish...
I was able to raise it a tad by installing ball valves, but it's not enough. So I got a long black strip of vinyl and installed it on the outside of the acrylic, this way it looks like it's a part of the canopy. Not the ideal solution but looks a heck of a lot better than the visible water line/gap.
