Lower ph for my stingrays

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sorry to thread jack, but can I add the coral in a bag directly into the tank so I don't have to dig into the canister every few days to add more slowly? That way I can put it in the canister when its at the right level for ph of 7 or does it need to be in the flow of the canister to be effective?

You can add it anywhere, the amount you need would be based on your parameters but normally I don't rely on it to raise pH or hardness but to keep it constant.

I wish I was you right now. I kept and bred rays for years in pH 8 water with high hardness. Now I have the opposite issue with high pH and no hardness so it plummets 24hrs later. Really been a pain.

The additives for ph are ridiculous ph down by api is sulfuric acid. Which is battery acid. And if used in a tank that has a a high hardness level will just rebound. What do the directions say add more.. So they can sell you more products. I make my water by taking a plastic contaner and use peat moss to control those factors. I test the water and when Ph and Alcalinity and hard ness Are where I want them I either buffer accordengly or leaave it alone. It is mineral free. After carbon removal clear as driinking water. I agree with bio mass ussage but never had a problem with Ph. is a hard topic and is a main water chemisty focus. There are so many factors for ph. But mostly people say if the ph is not extreme in either direction to leave it alone. I can hold 6.8-7 no problem for my rays. My system I am not using my system to break down organics so my bio load is small. I have a pond filter with a backwash feature. No need for me to remove large amounts of water daily or weekly for that matter.
