Lowering Nitrates

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I will probably go with the python and try and figure something out. Thanks for the help!
I too use my shower head to refill my tank. I screw off the shower head, attach the python (I did have to buy a fitting to make it work but that was easy and cheap), I adjust the water temperature running normal water in the tub and when it’s the right temp I pull the shower head lever and that starts filling up my tank.

Niki_up Niki_up I’m going to do what you said with a siphon. I have a shower head nearby that would work perfectly

If you don't want to take off the showerhead:

I made my own pvc hanger (similar to the post above) and use a 25 foot length of vinyl hose to drain out into my yard. After draining is complete, a small section of garden hose plugs into the end of the vinyl hose by way of a barb fitting for refilling duties. I can drain and refill tanks at a very fast rate using this method, saving me tons of time.

Thanks, it’s quite easy as we have one of those long hose shower heads for rinsing the dog so it just have to remove the shower head off those hose not the wall part. It’s pretty effortless really.

Lol. That's exactly what we have ours for.

Hose and pump work very well as well. I have python, I used pump when I moved to another apartment, now I use canister filter to do water change. I drain water using gravity, fill out a bucket under sink, add safe to it, leave tap on and let canister suck water from it and transfer to tank.

Your fish and bacteria should be fine with a little exposure to chlorine, otherwise get a large dust bin as suggested.

Niki_up Niki_up that what I’m going to do

I have posted a picture here somewhere on someone else thread. I literally am a dumb dumb when it comes to plumbing so I took my shower head to the store with the green part of the python and told them I wanted reverse threads of the shower head that would connect to the python ? somehow he understood and gave me the right part

A dumb dumb would have spent several days on plumbing sites trying to figure out fittings and then giving up and finally asking on a forum like I did lol. Got an instant answer and everything fit. You did it way smarter heh.
