Lucas Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No the plywood tanks can be made like ponds. WIth or without a viewing window.
The wood is like a brace. Generally they are lined w/ a pond liner, fiberglassed.
Keep checking it out Lucas....lots of good ideas in there.

Here is a quick easy photo to explain. This is where I am at with mine. My daughter been keeping me occupied lately so I have made zero progress. This may be overkill but this design is proven and works. Check threads by JohnG and VLdesign for almost identical builds. Only length and height is different between them. There are probably others and maybe a few older members can point those out.

The walls of the tank are stacked and screwed 2x4's. Interlocking corners for strength. The inside is then lined with plywood. From there corners and seams are fiberglassed. The plywood gets layers of a sealer. Then in my build it gets coated in pond armor to the color I want. Then an acrylic window is put in place on the inside. That is the build in a nutshell.

This is also only one way to build it. There should be a compilation of builds I will see if I can dig it up and post the link here for you. We all have our own way of doing things and maybe the compilation thread will get your creativity going.

Hey guys, thanks for the amazing info!

Bob your tank is becoming very nice! I wonder if I can work so well with wood like this.

I was thinking today of making one of those dug into the ground, but was wondering how I could protect it from the water coming from the sand in its sides.. I guess that you can use the same process that you use for the inner side for outside, but I also think that the work would be very big and it would demand big money if I could even find material with the same quality that you guys have there!

There are many point to be observed but I think that with a bit of planning they can all be overcome!
