Lucy and Henlei getting aquainted

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The Goonch is mentioned, that's "Lurch" - an Aimara bit him when younger and his tail never grew back. Its a blessing in disguise for a raykeeper as I don't think rays would compete with a fully functional Goonch. They are very hungry fellers.

Lucy is not quite 2'. Seems to just get fatter vs length as I think she barely got any longer in the pond, but surely gained girth.

She did recently gouge the Goonch. Will more then likely move "Lurch" out. He was the last fish added to the pond - due to messing with one of the "milinial" rays here..... Gonna have to shuffle some more..... :( She's been responsible for several deaths here we believe. Recently one of the "Brassie" Dorado. Much more mischief from her and she'll be riding solo over rays.

That's unfortunate.

I was just trying to find your thread of Lucy the other day to ask for an update lol. You know I love seeing the tank. Thanks for the update. Gorgeous fish as always. And that raph is something to be proud of lol.

Thanks Moe! :) Here's some more pics.....

While I love all the fish in the 750, I'm partial to the rays in the tank left of the 750. Even more partial to the rays in the tank to the left of the tank to the left of the 750....... Been waiting probably 3-4 years to see these 3 tanks sitting next to eachother. Sucks there's not enough room to see the eentire front of the 750 but I think all the monster cats enjoy the security of the driftwood cove in that back corner of the 750.

Second to last pic shows the Hillari amongst the Brasiliensis. :) VERY happy to see him accepted. Makes me want to add the other 4 Hillari....

That’s a gorgeous fish room. Have you seen all the lacs popping up under rio tapajos aimara? Funny after you went through your adventures trying to find one. And that’s cool to see the hillari in there, was there any fighting upon introduction where they singled him out or did/do they ignore it or maybe treat it as they do each other? I assume something if your hesitant to add the others. I could look at your tanks all day :)

I started with 7 Hillari in a 300. Everything seemed fine for a while then fighting began really fast. Two were killed in overnight fights - like hardly any damage at night, next morning just shredded. I assumed I had picked out the alpha after the first attack, second time I was pretty sure of the culprit, after that I saw him start on a 3rd. I snatched his ass out of the 300 at the time and dropped him in the pond with the Brassies. Less then a week goes by and there's a shredded Dorado stuck to the filter intake. Assumed for sure they offed the Hilari. Nope, was a Brassie. Huge gash down the side, had to be one of the wolves. Was no issues after that.

Now fast forward to present, the 4 are smaller then the alpha - so I am hesitant to add them to the 750 with Lucy in there. I'd like to think they would be ok, BUT with the availability of these things (Hillari) it would seem silly of me not to do something to insure they have a shot at swimming with the Brassies without being stalked by a fish 3 times their length and 12X the girth.... lol.

But the 750 is the only thing I have here that's 4' wide, everything else is 3'. Would a wolf almost 2' long be ok in say a 8x3? I'm thinking she would, but said 8x3 is only 2' tall vs the 3 tanks int he upper basement all being 30".

I have not been paying attention to all the Lacs of lately due to trying to obtain Lacs in the past and having what I'd call piss poor luck with them, maybe cause Lucy seems to be to blame for several larger wolves demises.

Can you point me in the direction of said Lacs Moe???? I'm curious about them and how much they cost. I remember reading that Rapps had some, then heard he was retiring???

Interesting the hillari shoal experienced casualties, maybe they're more aggressive towards the same species in comparison to other dorados. We still have everything to learn about them.

As far as adding the four, I'd agree with your call on Lucy being a threat, and even possibly the other dorados, as you know any change can throw off balance in a tank. I think she'd be fine in the 8x3, of course she'd appreciate more space being the character she is ;). So I don't think it's hurt long as it's temporary, maybe let the hillari grow in the 750 for awhile, or attempt to catch up to the others. And surely I will keep an eye out on the wolves the guys have in stock to see if I can confirm any lacs for you. I know on every member wasn't looking to sell his specimen awhile ago, I thought I tagged you in it back then but I may have not as I understood you had given up for awhile atleast. They were under 200 I will say. And yes rapps did have them, both him and wes, labeled the same and similarly priced. Looks as though rapps is retiring via his note on his website. Ive not had contact with him in a while personally.

AAA+ Awesome Awesome update Al. What a great diverse collection living together.
That room looks sweet with the stand heights all the same, just above the back of the couch.

Few vids.....

Thanks for sharing :) I thought the dorado were fighting at first in the second vid lol. That raph really is huge and you can see that when it’s next to lucy. You might just be holding a record there. Biggest I’ve ever seen. Surprised the aro is holding its own with them.
