Luft pump?

If you want to save a couple bucks, go with the knock-off version of the alita from Jehmco. I have the DAPMH15 and was pretty impressed with the quality for only $75. It's really quiet for how much air it pushes. I can't speak to how well it will hold up long term because I've only been running it for a few months.

how many outlets you have on it?

on what size tanks

It's only one tank, but it's 770G and it's 4 feet tall. Pumping air that deep requires a decent amount of power. I'm running two 2.5" air diffuser balls in the main tank and a 10" bubble wand in the sump.

This pump would be overkill. You mentioned you would be running 12 to 18 tanks. This EcoPlus can run 95 outlets (88LPM is a ton of air flow). Bigger is not always better...I would get the pump that is suited to run 12 to 18 tanks so that you are not wasting money on running a larger pump and having to bleed the pump off because it's pushing too much air. Plus, if noise is an issue, I'm willing to bet that this pump is really loud compared to the Alita or the Jehmco branded Alita.

Call the folks at Jehmco and explain to them what you are trying to do. They seem to specialize in providing products to breeders and will be able to provide you with exactly the right pump.
