Does anyone have a lunar light on a planted tank? I am setting up a 125 gallon tank and need to buy the lighting. I hae not made up my mind yet what to put on it and I was thinking about a Coralife Lunar Aqualight compact fluor. strip light 72". I was looking for T5 in 72" to keep heat down but not having much luck finding. Anyone have any thoughts?

I used too when I had my planted tank....if you want a 6' T5ho light aquatinics makes a nice one and I think helious(sp?) makes one as well

I have set one up for a customer before, they look pretty good at night when you run them. I personally like the look of the lunar lights at night.

Hi 1190,
I was in the same situation as you. I wanted lunar lights and had to have t5ho. After doing some research i chose the 72inch outer orbit extreme it has t5 ho lunar lights and metal halide. set up on timers so i can utilize all the lamps they rock! i ended up buying 2 more for my other two tanks (also 72inch). ck out the website i think you will be happy or if you have any specific questions i will be happy to help you out. I hope this helps.
P.S. what ya keepin in that tank?

If you want Moonlights, you will be best off buying seperate. In todays market many of the fixtures that have lunar lights aren't very good. Stick to the HO T5 with a 125, if you go PC, you will be regretting it in about a year.

^^^x2 I have a Lunar light on my 26 gallon bowfront and I love it and hate it. The first one I got, the leds didn't work. I called the Coralife rep and got a new model one and used that on a planted setup for a few months before I merged the contents into the 100gallon tank so I could go salt.

I love the look of the light, very modern and looks like a million bucks on the tank. Very quiet too. 3 cords so it can cycle between moon lights actinic and full, and the plants had great color in there. Keep in mind though, at 24" I get the good end of PC stick with a 130watt light on a little 26. The ratio gets less favorable on a bigger tank, iirc

Now the bad. The first one didn't work (!!!!!!!!!), it's a large dominant fixture that makes it hard to put additional lights on the tank. At best this combo will work for softies and mushrooms. If I was injecting co2 in that tank I would have probably had to replace the actinic with a 6700K bulb ($$) to really use the fixture.

So that's my 2 cents. I like mine, but it might end up on a fuge someday

Will Lunar lights eat up a little co2 if u don't have it controlled at night?

Yep...I just spent 110 bucks to relamp my PC

I am in the process of setting up a 175 bowfront planted and looked into lunar lights , their isnt any benefit just personal; taste. I agree with wyldfya. T5 HO is a must. I chose a combination light (aquamedic 72" 3 150 metal halide 6700k with t5 ho 6700k
