Hi Mike.

I have kept many lungfish over the years including Aethiopicus, normal and albino, Annectens, Dolloi(African) and Lepidosiren paradoxa (south American). Absolutely fascinating creatures, the one you have Mike is Protopterus annectens, this species usually tops out at 30" long though 36" specimens are not unheard of even in captivity.

Nice to hear yours is really active, its probably constantly hungry.

Lungfish require lots of respect as they grow, they possess a very powerful bite, Lepidosiren from South America is generally the one to have from of the ones I have mentioned if your thinking of keeping them in a communal situation, they do attain 48" though so need good size aquaria.

No doubt you and Ali have a name for yours lol ?

Hi Richard

You are so knowledgeable .. You know so much more about fish, than we do trains !!
Boddington is his name lol
Mike called Bonnington after the mountaineer Chris Bonnington - I thought he said Boddington.
We thought he would be docile and just sit in the compartment in the sump ... But oh no - he took to wandering from one compartment to the next, including the narrow bit where one of the heaters is kept. He was in a state, burnt his head, so he had a white mark on it, and entangled in the filter wool. We had to do an emergency repair, in hope he would survive. His white head has returned to normal, but no longer Bonnington, but Boddington with his creamy head that was. He is now doing well, and mike hand feeds him :)
