Looks like a spotted African Lungfish-Dolloi

Is the spotted African Lungfish-Dolloi or west african lungfish (which ever it may be) basically the same thing as a normal lungfish? Will the growth rate etc... be the same as a normal African Lungfish?

There is no such thing as normal lungfish name, lol! You must be talking about about the west african lungfish (Protopterus annectens annectens) as they are the most widely available in the hobby. Spotted african lungfish (Protopterus doloi) is a completely different african lungfish species. Please read the stickies to understand more. There are 4 different kinds of african lungfish species.

The one that you have is the West African Lungfish (Protopterus annectens annectens). Growth rate on those is fast if cared properly. They are by far one of the fastest grower.

cool... thanks. The only reason I was asking is because I have an African Lungfish and it has no where near as many dots on it as this lung does. Is it possible it is the Protopterus doloi?

Nah, it's not a dolloi. Just a west african lungfish. Patterns and base color on WAL can varied. Most juvies have spots.
:nilly: Oh haha, I wasn't too sure since the head doesn't look clear to me. :)

As I said in my previews first post. Patterns and base color on west african lungfish can varied. Patterns can have lots of dots to less dots to big or small dots or none at all. There is no way possible that lungfish is a p. doloi. P. doloi is a lot more elongated and slender at that size and look like south american lungfish with longer pectoral fins. That's why they also call p. doloi as slender african lungfish.

Check out the media lounge lungfish show off. Or you use google for pics.
