Lungfish looks sick!

I'm still amazed that it survived a year without a filter. I don't know what convinced you not to put one on in the first place, co sidering you have other tanks! Might be eating its own poop. Maybe.

Of course it is, but in a quality properly sized filter it will decompose into mostly harmless elements. Water changes will get the rest out.

HEy thanks for all your replies. It is absolutely possible that the poop got sucked into the filter. However I'm just thinking, I would have seen some poop lying around (have you seen the size of the poop. they're massive). It is the case in my other tanks with filters - whenever I see poop settling to the bottom of the tank I'd siphon it away.

Anyway I'm grateful for all your replies. In the past there was no filter - my bad. Now it's looking much healthier than before.

A quick reply to say that my 80cm PA had the same problem last week (symptoms: skin discoloration + peeling off i.e. "burnt" + fish constantly floating) - despite a powerful filter and everything. Thanks to this thread, I identified the cause almost immediately and did an emergency water change. Fishy looked MUCH, MUCH better a day after that (Phew!)
The cause? I myself was to blame as I had been feeding my PA too much (a lot, actually) high protein diet (raw fish + king prawns + dry shrimps) for the past couple of weeks; the ammonia issue had never crossed my mind as I was naïve to believe that the bugs in the filter canister can do "the job". Alas!!
Thanks guys (again)!!
