Lungfish near death!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Have been changing water 50-70% everyother day. About to change again and add tetracycline. Filter has been a charcole one, but charcole has been out cause of pima/mela use. Going to stop using those though. Looking into filter types, what is best for lungfish?

use either a cannister filter, or build a sump for the tank, there are lots of DIY sump threads in the DIY forum. if either is not an option, go for a couple aqua clear 110's

keep us updated.

His tail looks worse and there are more patches on body. But he's hanging in there (literally, at top of water). Breaks my heart, poor guy! Changed out water, added tetra/salt. Will find better filter. Cross ur fins for some improvment soon!

wow. that's sad. how is he doing? i hope he makes it. i've never had any problems like this before. any vet around that could look at him? he should see someone asap.

Lung Sei...keep doing water changes and ad salt...lungs don't like meds...for me salt always works great...don't feed it and leave it allone as much as possible...try to lower the waterlevel to minimise stress and turn off the lights...and keep the water warm.

Sadness rains! Poor Lung Shui died yesterday morning. I think the stress of a new tank, those nasty white worms and not knowing what meds to use, or not use as the case maybe, was all too much for him. I am not sure where else I went so wrong. I found and was given great advice on here-kept him warm, did water changes, had his water level lower so he wouldn't have struggle, added salt, no light, left him alone and was treating with tetracycline. Couldn't get the ammonia and nitrite levels to 0 though. I feel lower then tank scum. He was such a lovable fish. I thank-you all for your advice and concern. I think from now on, out of respect to Lung Shui, I will stay away from fish of any kind.

I think you owe it to your lung to become the best fish-keeper you can be...Later on down the road, give a lung another go, you will have learned all the thing that went wrong this time, and how to prevent them. Stick around, we have some pro's ;) You will be just fine. Mourning period is to be expected, and for that I mourn with you. Good luck bro and don't give up :)

very sorry to hear that, but think of it as a learning experience. lungs are awesome fish and i hope you can get a larger tank for one so you can enjoy them at full size.

I appreciate your reply. I am hooked on lungfish now. I say I am staying away, but if I come across one again, you know I will be trying again. Muuuch the wiser however. Just so sick with upset at the time.

To be honest i remember you saying that he came to you not very well so i dont think you could have prevented it much. Whatever happened to him prior to you having him must have been bad as lungs are pretty much indestructible, stick around, give it some time and then if you find a lung thats in good condition give it another go.

People think its daft mourning a fish but when my prize albino tiger oscar, Lily, Died I felt like ****e, hold in there mate, it wasne your fault.
