Greetings

I have avaliable to me (finally :D) some African Lungish. I haven't done too much reading on lungfish captive care, so I'll need some help here.

I have been told that "African Lungish" are not really great with other fish. But, of course, as you well know, there are several species of lungfish in Africa, along with subspecies.

Protopterus aethiopicus aethiopicus, P. a. congicus and P. dolloi.... are any of these suitable to house with ANY kind of fish?

Thanks

Thanks for the reply! Good to hear from you again! :)

I wouldn't mind housing it in a tank for itself, but it may seem like a waste of space for one fish. Then again, maybe not...

I'll think about it. Other cool fish as well, so my options will have to remain open.

all african lungfish are known to kill tankmates.
but you will find some that wont.
my old annectens didnt kill anything except the occasional platy or goldfish.
he tolerated a huge range of tankmates.
but the annectens i had before that killed everything.
same for the marbled and dolloi ive had.

when in doubt put millions of guppies in

they provide handy snacks and breed faster than they can be eaten in a well planted tank, they look good too shoaling around the darker coloured lung

Hmm...The Dolloi is considered the shyest of all the Afros, the Amphibius is said to be more peaceful than the rest, whilst the Annectens and Aethiopicus are considered the most aggressive of the genus.

If anything, my best bets goes to trying on either a Dolloi and Amphibius, because whilst it is likely, your probably more likely to find peaceful individuals than in an Annectens or Aethiopicus.

I have an annectens, and some other fish in same tank. The lung do not care of ancistrus and gibbiceps, but he ate all of zebra danios. Devario malabaricus are good for mates, couse they are pretty fast, and swim in the top section of the thank. Ithink that lungs can keep together fishes, whose fast enough to escape, and wont try swim and eat close to the soil, where the lung moving around-
